The Comic Dorks podcast is a thing!

We’ll just let the press release speak for itself! :)

September 16, 2012, Salt Lake City – Frogpants, LLC is proud to announce that Comic Dorks, starring Scott Johnson, Stephen Schleicher, Scott Kurtz, & Marc Spagnuolo, is about to launch on the Frogpants Podcast Network!

“We’re all comic book lovers”, says Johnson, “with a lot to say about the current state of the comics world and where things might end up one day. Seems like the perfect combination of people and platform for a new monthly show to me.”

“I’m ready to read some comics, talk about said comics, and then make a joke or two about Mr. Johnson. So I think I’m pretty much good to go!”, said Spagnuolo of the new venture.

“I can’t wait…plus, there’s always time to be angry about comic books. Let’s do this.”, says Kurtz. “I’m pumped. Should be a lot of fun!”

“Wait… we get to make fun of Scott Johnson!? Now I’m super pumped!”, remarked Schleicher. “Now if we get to work the words “wood” “Johnson” and “Scott Kurtz” into a single sentence, the Intardwebz ear holes will be spinning!”

On each monthly episode of Comic Dorks, the boys will talk about the books they’re reading, industry news, and the state of comics in general.

“There’s so much to talk about in regard to print vs digital, what the big publishers are doing to try and keep our devotion.”, said Johnson. “Comic Dorks aims to be the kind of show and conversation that will invite lots of interaction with listeners and fans.”

Comic Dorks, episode one, will launch on October 1st 2012, and be available via iTunes,, and wherever you stream or download your favorite shows.

“Right now we are planning on a monthly release schedule, kind of like the comics you read, but if things really take off, who knows what will happen.” said Johnson. “We can’t wait to get cranking and put this thing out for comic fans to hear!”

  1. Super stoked about this! I subscribe to four New 52 comics (Batman, Justice League, Action, & Green Lantern) and might be adding Aquaman, so it’s gonna be fun to hear the Frogpants spin on those and other comics….

    • Oddly enough, Aquaman is one of the few DC new 52 that stayed on my digital “pull list”. I honestly don’t know why as I have never had any interest in Aquaman as a character. But there’s something about this series that I like. They were actually able to make him sort of a bad ass. But it’s a pretty good read.

  2. Haha “…much to talk about in regards to prints vs digital” I bet Mr Stan Lee would disagree you silly person ;P

  3. Longtime Frogpants podcast subscriber. Already subscribed to this one too.

One request: I love, Love, LOVE, the new IDW TMNT. They have done an amazing job rebooting the franchise and are hitting on all cylinders. Not sure if any of you are following it but I would love to hear your thougths.

    Love the (future) show, though.

    • Hey Louis! You’ll be glad to know I am a huge fan of TMNT. From the original Eastman and Laird stuff to the goofy cartoons (all seasons currently reside on my AppleTV) to the new rebooted series. And I agree, this new version of the turtles is great. I’m a few issues behind but I’ll catch up by the time we record next week.

  4. Super excited about the show.

Just because I know you are going to have to talk about the impact of the most recent re-launch of the new 52. Here is my perspective:

As a kid (I’m 27 now) I always loved going to the comic book store with my dad. I never subscribed to specific books but I loved picking up a few of the discount comics and reading through them (as a kid I mostly looked at the pictures).

Well, fast forward 20 years later and I miss that experience. I read internet comics, play dorky games, and can generally be described as a geek. I have wanted to get back into comics for the past few years but could not drive myself to learn the entire process over again (should I get spiderman #968 or deadpool #72 or justice league #whocares ?) It seemed too daunting and too intimidating. I can say since the re-launch I have been an avid comic book reader (mostly DC, some independents, and a few Marvel) for the past 13 months.

The re-launch worked. The comic book industry got a brand new, dependable customer because of the DC re-launch. If they didn’t re-launch then I would doubt I would have ever gotten into comics again.

Sorry for the long wind. Love all the frogpants stuff, especially TMS.
