  1. “We know why Locke isn’t supposed to walk”

No we don’t. You made this podcast assuming everybody has seen lost. I haven’t seen a frame (and based on feedback won’t)

    • Soooo….not sure I see the problem? Not if you’re not going to ever watch watch anyway.

  2. I watched Lost and I liked Lost. I didn’t like the finale – but to be clear, I enjoyed the last season and the last episode. What I didn’t like was that a lot was left unexplained. And I know, I know, what was important was the characters and not the mystery. I have been re-assured that this is true. Only it’s sort of not. Many episodes were hinged on the mystery so I get pissed when I’m told that wasn’t important. To be clear – I really liked Lost and would recommend it to anyone. But I very much dislike creators of Lost telling me what was important and what wasn’t. They are the ones who put it in the show. They made it part of the story. For them to then tell me what they themselves included wasn’t something I should be so focused on, really made me mad. But I still recommend the show. The ride is well worth it, even if when it was all over I felt a pang of disappointment.

And I love your show. No disappointment after your finale. I look forward to season 2.

  3. I was a little surprised that more wasn’t mentioned about Greg Grunberg’s turn as the short-lived pilot of Oceanic 815. I always had the impression that, when the decision was made not to kill off Jack, that the duty to die fell to him.

Oddly enough, the Lost pilot (literally) appeared briefly in an episode of Fringe, when broadcasts from the other reality leak over into ours. There is a very quick look at a deleted scene from the Lost pilot with Grunberg and Claire meeting in the airport bar.

  4. This will be the first episode of Autopilot that I won’t bother to hear. It’s a shame, really, I love the hosts and the interplay, but the entire concept of Lost makes me want to vomit, so I avoid it like the disease that it is.

  5. Hey guys, great show and perfect end to season 1 of AutoPilot. The one comment I want to add to the ‘Lost’ episode is the fact that wasn’t it Walt the one who made the polar bear appear? I was under the impression that one of the qualities of the island was the ability to make your thoughts come to life and Walt did see the polar bear in that comic book he found.

    Just my perspective.

  6. No, the polar bear lived in the cages on the other island. The same cages Sawyer and Kate were held captive in. The bears were experimented on and used to turn the huge wheel at the core of the island. There was a polar bear skeleton found in the desert of Tunisia which is where you end up when you turn the wheel.

About the music, it wasn’t a case of them simply just reusing some score from the pilot, Micheal Giacchino created themes for characters and situations that he incorporated into the music that he scored every week. There are loads of new themes later in the series, especially during the time travel stuff and in the ‘flash-sideways’ of season six.

Oh, and if you read this, Scott? Tom is right, it was not purgatory. Jack gets to speak to his dad who tells them that they are in a place where time works differently which is why people who are still alive are in the church as well. Sawyer, Kate etc escaped from the island, they all live, Hurley really does become the new Jacob and everything we see in the ‘real world’ actually happened. Jack sacrifices himself to save his friends and his ‘reward’ was to see everyone happy, including his dad, who was the reason he was on the island in the first place.

I am a huge Lost fan but I fully admit that they messed up with certain characters and situations. They left a lot unanswered but they really do answer a LOT but conveniently complainers forget about those. Great podcast by the way. Can’t wait for season two :)

  7. One thing that never made sense is didn’t Desmond ‘remember’ or ‘know’ about the flash sideways universe that supposed to happened out of time after everyone dies.
Others stuck Desmond in front of the huge magnet thing and he was in the post life universe thing….. that doesn’t make sense with the reality presented in the final episode.

  8. I believe this was a show that you should have just stuck with the pilot, I had to stop listening when you started spoiling the plot….I never had a chance too watch lost but just started watching with my girls….will listen later. IMO…if you do a show that is less than 10 years old don’t spoil it. thanks, great podcast!!
